This is the 2008 artists impression of the new Hall . The Hall will be 30ft high, so the trees shown are 50ft high and are to scale.
The Hall will be positioned at the end of the Lye, as it is set back from Festival Path by the space required for disabled access. The Lyeside boundary of the existing Car Park is thought to be more or less in line with the front face of the building.
It is for this reason that the cricket square has had to be re-positioned and the cricket boundary will now be close to the pond edge. It brings a new meaning to Silly Mid Off !
The building will be screened by trees as shown although they will deciduous and will take some years to establish themselves.
The general view of the Villagers remains that this is too big, too ambitious and the impact of the car park, and the bars and entertaining facilites has not been fully considered.
Lets go back to Plan B, rebuild on the existing site.

The Management Committee of St John's Memorial Hall Association are in a difficult position. Damned if they do, and damned if they don't. But they have been steadfast in their belief that the Hall will get rebuilt and they have done sterling work in raising the money - £300,000 is no mean feat and they are to be applauded for their achievement.
However what they have done in the past, and are doing now is not listening to the people who will be most affected by this change - the local residents. There are lots of reasons why the Hall should not be built on the Lye - and almost no reasons why it should not be built on the existing site. In fact this was recognised about 3 years ago, and it was declared that the objective was in fact to rebuild on the current site. This was warmly welcomed by the residents and the money started flowing in, now at £300,000.

The reversal of the decision and the intention to build on the Common was a shock to many. But the fact still remains that the current site is a viable location - it has been for nearly 60 years so why not now ? Local residents will continue to support the rebuilding on the existing site. But they will NOT support the rebuilding on the Lye, our Village Green, the Village Common however you know it; we want to keep it.
So come on Memorial Hall, why not continue on the path you had chosen 3 years ago and rebuild with our support and help?
